winking at the homophobe haters and those sinful AIDS folks again!

Community and press discussions about the early response to AIDS (1981-2) with the HBO film "The Normal Heart". There continues to be the ongoing high rates of HIV infection among young gay black men. Issues of racism and exclusion.

Saw a posting on Facebook and disagreed with it. The following interactions happened.

I have been young, and now am old, yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his children begging for bread. -Psalms 37:25

  • R Michael Wright i have seen the righteous forsaken and children begging. one can only look at the AIDS genocide, fact that 25% of children live in poverty. This is one of the weird sayings that supported slavery, racism, ethnic cleansing.. this is scary

  • Bishop Ronald Martin R Michael wright...King David said that HE has never seen the righteous forsaken...If you were a man after God's own heart like King David , you would at least thank God for waking us up each morning because he dosn/t have to

  • Bishop Ronald Martin You can always tell God how you feel , and remember , if you don/t have aids then thank him because he spared you...tell God your concerns ..he hears you...

  • R Michael Wright I have no doubt about God. AIDS has never been about me but the thousands of patients I had in hospitals whose family and ministers saw them as not doing God's will. As our Pope Francis says "Who am I to judge".. but if not me to help, who then (sadly not usually among the righteous).

  • Bishop Ronald Martin I/m glad you believe in God ; maybe you have a concern for the sick because the Lord gave you compassion to pray for those with aids..Jesus is a great healer

  • R Michael Wright I do not think of God nor Jesus since our minds are only tissue and water. I do thank my Mom for being an example and sitting with hundreds of people having mental illness and just listening. When she died hundreds demanded a state memorial for this volunteer, a Mom who had 9 children. I had a grandmother who sat in Chicago gay bars and was a friend to those denied basic civil rights. I have the memory of an Aunt who was Mother Superior of a Catholic religious order with a college charged with the mission of educating women to change the world. Most of all, I also have the witness to Bishop Manny Cruz of the Newark Archdiocese who found nuns for me to train in pastoral counseling or resources to help those deemed the misfortunate and undeserving, among them I would say the Mary Magdalens of our time.

  • Bishop Ronald Martin That/s precisely my point..since you fight for the hungry , abused and forsaken ; and since the Lord created such a wonderful mother just for you , then think of how great God/s mercy is , and should be forever praised in public and never doubted.

No one would work with the lgbt kids in Newark in the early 2000s, I remember the voice of the daughter of an Apostolic who was thrown out into the streets for being a lesbian. she is one of the human faces such as in today's rally. Her father still preaching God's mercy.. .https://www.facebook.com/AliForney

  • R Michael Wright i have problems with a calvinist interpretation period that particular psalm refects a matter of dogma (whether one believes each of these psalms to be God's word). The Council of Trent reinforced that. We just have to see the world in different lenses and live in parallel universes. forgive and be compassionate as everything changes. enjoy the jewels in life and radiant light illuminating them. dream one's dreams.

  • Bishop Ronald Martin It was and is God/s word that has caused and informed you that there is a God in whom you believe. Calvin was just a man..The Bible is here for everyone to read and accept in it/s simplicity . When we pray , we talk to God ; when we read the word , God talks to us..again your disappointment is with Calvin , a man . You are also disappointment with people who mistreat people and not God or his word.

  • Bishop Ronald Martin Everything that sin causes is my preoccupation . That/s why in all of your experience , I am called by God today to teach you that the bible and God are inseparable . If you really want to be effective , teach abstinence of sexual sin with your ministry; an ounce of prevention is worth a pound or cure .

  • R Michael Wright i supported Bonnie Watson-Coleman but I did not realize her campaign is so theocratic. I am particularly concerned with the disregard for AIDS as an issue. I am also concerned with the lack of compassion. I did not expect to read about sexual sin today. I think the communities need to know whether these thoughts are of hers or just the public. I think taking objection to a particular psalm should not lead to dissing of the thousands of AIDS patients, family members, loved ones, neighbors. What is the science of sexual sin? Will that be an agenda of a possible Congress Member? I shared these comments with the other candidates for Congress as they may be surprised by them.
